Travis Scott’s new single “4×4” debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, showing that CD singles still have a place in the music industry.
Despite streaming and digital downloads dominating music sales, Scott’s success came largely from CD sales, surprising many who thought the physical format was dead.
“4×4” sold an impressive 167,000 copies in its first tracking week. The majority of these sales were physical CD singles, not digital downloads.
Only a small fraction of the total sales came from digital platforms, with fewer than 1,500 downloads.
The CD single is available for $1.99 in Scott’s online store, with all proceeds going to California wildfire relief.
Scott’s success highlights that CD singles still resonate with dedicated fans who want to support their favorite artists.
While it might not be worth producing physical singles for most artists, Scott’s massive fanbase proved that CDs can still make an impact in music charts.
Although “4×4” didn’t rank on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart, it performed well in genre-specific lists.
The track landed at No. 2 on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart and No. 3 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart.
