Nintendo’s new Switch 2 console has finally opened for preorders, but as expected, demand has been high.

As of April 24, major retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, and Target have sold out of their stock. However, GameStop has just started taking preorders, so there is still a chance to secure one.

The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, after being delayed by tariffs. While Nintendo hopes to meet the demand, they can’t guarantee that everyone who preorders will get their console, especially since their Japanese store has already sold out.

Here’s where you can try to preorder and some tips to improve your chances.

Available Preorder Options

At launch, the Switch 2 will be available in two versions:

  • Standard Version: $449.99
  • Mario Kart World Bundle: $499.99 (only available until Fall 2025)

If you miss the bundle, you can buy Mario Kart World separately for $79.99. Prices may change in the future due to adjustments by Nintendo.

Where to Preorder the Switch 2

Walmart:
Walmart has sold out of both versions. However, you can still preorder accessories and games, like Donkey Kong Bananza and the Switch 2 Pro Controller. Orders placed by June 4th should arrive by June 5th.

Best Buy:
Best Buy has sold out online, but in-store preorders will begin on April 24th during regular store hours. If you manage to reserve one, stores will be open at midnight ET on June 5th for pickup.

Target:
Target is out of stock for both the Switch 2 and the Mario Kart World bundle. However, you can still preorder games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

GameStop:
GameStop is still accepting preorders for both versions. Online preorders started at 11 AM ET on April 24th. Stores will open at midnight ET on June 5th for console pickup. GameStop is also offering up to $175 off if you trade in a Switch OLED or regular Switch.

Tips to Secure a Console

  • Use Mobile Apps: Retailer apps tend to be faster than browsers for preordering.
  • Skip Accessories: Focus on getting the console first, as accessories usually don’t sell out as quickly.
  • Refresh the Page: Preorder availability may change, so regularly refreshing the page or checking the mobile app can help you grab one.

Although the initial preorder rush has left many without a console, GameStop’s later preorder window gives more chances to secure one. Keep checking for updates and good luck getting your Switch 2!
