‘Squid Game’ Star Explains Why Front Man Gave Up the Baby

Squid Game star Lee Byung-hun has addressed one of the biggest lingering mysteries from the show’s third and final season: why the Front Man ultimately gave Jun-hee’s baby to his brother, Jun-ho.

In the emotional finale, following Gi-hun’s sacrifice, the Front Man (In-ho) is seen taking the baby after the games are exposed. He cares for her for six months before handing her over to Jun-ho along with the 45.6 billion won prize money. His actions sparked widespread speculation among fans, who questioned why the long-standing antagonist would suddenly choose to walk away.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Lee Byung-hun said the Front Man had grown weary of the violence and manipulation at the core of the games. “After everything he’s been through… I think the Front Man is a little sick of testing people,” Lee said. “The baby won the game, so the money should go to the baby. His brother can help ensure that.”

The decision also highlights a shift in the Front Man’s character. Once a ruthless enforcer of the Squid Game rules, he now appears to be acting out of a sense of duty and perhaps even redemption. His trust in Jun-ho, despite their complex history, marks a subtle but meaningful evolution.

Why the Decision Matters

The move to hand over the child surprised many viewers. Given the Front Man’s backstory — he once joined the games in 2015 to save his pregnant wife and unborn child, who ultimately did not survive — fans believed he may have seen raising Jun-hee’s baby as a second chance.

Lee’s comments confirm that, while the Front Man still adheres to the strict rules of the game, he may be gradually distancing himself from the cold persona he built. The gesture to leave the prize money and entrust his brother also suggests a lingering connection between the two men.

Still, Questions Remain

Despite this explanation, many fans are still curious about what happened during the six months the Front Man spent with the child, and what his ultimate fate will be. His character, though central to the series, remains mysterious — sparking calls for a spinoff or prequel that dives deeper into his origins.

Even Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has teased the possibility of a series focused on the Front Man. Both he and Lee Byung-hun have expressed interest in exploring the character further.

As Netflix’s hit series concludes, the Front Man’s final decisions hint at a character caught between guilt, duty, and redemption — leaving fans wondering whether this is truly the end of his story.
