Just a year after hiking subscription prices in the United States, Spotify is increasing rates once again for its Premium, Duo, and Family plans.
Starting next month, existing US subscribers will receive an email detailing the latest price hikes.
The new prices for Spotify’s streaming music services in the US are as follows:
Plan | Old Price | New Price | Increase |
---|---|---|---|
Premium | $10.99 | $11.99 | $1 (9%) |
Duo | $14.99 | $16.99 | $2 (13%) |
Family | $16.99 | $19.99 | $3 (18%) |
As the table shows, the Spotify Duo subscription, which allows two people to share a premium account, is seeing the largest percentage increase at 13%. The Family plan for up to six accounts is going up by 18%.
“So that we can continue to invest in and innovate on our product features and bring users the best experience, we occasionally update our prices,” Spotify said in a blog post announcing the changes.
The streaming giant recently increased subscription prices for international markets as well.
Bloomberg reported last month that Spotify still plans to launch a new “Supremium” tier with lossless audio and other premium features. Some users have already spotted a Dolby Atmos logo in the Spotify app, hinting at immersive audio as part of the Supremium offering.
With competition rising from Apple Music, Amazon Music, and others, Spotify is looking to generate more revenue from its premium subscriber base. Whether these repeated price hikes will pay off or push users to explore other options remains to be seen.Copy
