Spider-Man Showrunner Defends Animation Style Amid Criticism

Ahead of the premiere of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on January 29, 2025, showrunner Jeff Tramell addressed fan backlash over the show’s animation style.

Many viewers, particularly on Reddit, criticized the movement of characters, calling it “weird,” “rough,” and “lazy” after the trailer’s release.

Tramell, also the head writer and executive producer, urged fans to wait until the full season is available before forming an opinion. He explained that the animation looks different in the trailer due to how the scenes were edited.

Tramell emphasized that the show’s unique style, inspired by Spider-Man comic legends like Steve Ditko and John Romita Jr., sets it apart from other Spider-Man adaptations.

He believes the animation will grow on viewers once they see the entire season. Tramell also noted that the show’s look is intentional, aiming to make it stand out as a fresh take on Spider-Man.

He encouraged fans to give it a chance, saying, “I love our look, and I think everyone else who gives it a shot will too.”
