Sony Sues Tencent Over Alleged Horizon Game Copy

Light of Motiram Game

Sony has filed a lawsuit against Tencent, claiming the Chinese tech giant copied major elements from its popular Horizon game series.

The legal action centers on Tencent’s upcoming open-world game, Light of Motiram, which Sony says closely resembles Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, and Lego Horizon Adventures.

The lawsuit, first reported by Reuters, outlines how Light of Motiram mimics the Horizon franchise’s post-apocalyptic world, tribal themes, and machine-like creatures.

Sony also argues that the characters’ designs and the way Tencent promotes its game online look almost identical to Sony’s own marketing materials.

One of Sony’s strongest claims is that Tencent initially tried to license the Horizon intellectual property. According to Sony, Tencent proposed a mobile version of the game featuring “Eastern aesthetics,” survival elements, pet taming, and multiplayer modes. After Sony declined, Tencent allegedly moved forward with Light of Motiram—a game that Sony says includes many of the same features it rejected.

Sony has called the game a “slavish clone” and is seeking a court order to stop Tencent from developing or releasing Light of Motiram. The company is also asking for damages and the destruction of all content related to the game.

Tencent has not yet issued a public response to the lawsuit.
