The newly released Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film has already proven to be a massive success, grossing over $70 million at the box office.

But the film didn’t just break box office records—it also made history with an unusual Guinness World Record.

Ahead of its December 20, 2024 release, Paramount Pictures unveiled a giant shadow projection of the film’s highly anticipated character, Shadow, voiced by Keanu Reeves.

This massive projection, which appeared on the exterior wall of the American Dream mall in New Jersey, broke the previous record for the largest shadow projection.

The new shadow stretched across 285 square meters (around 3,070 square feet), more than doubling the previous record of 15.7 meters (51 ft 6 in) long by 8.09 meters (26 ft 6.5 in) wide.

The event, which was live-streamed, showcased the shadow of Shadow in a spectacle that marked the holiday season.

While this world record is not related to the film’s box office performance, it adds to the growing excitement surrounding Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

The film’s success extends beyond the shadow projection, with critics praising its emotional depth, action scenes, and Jim Carrey’s comedic performance.

With Sonic the Hedgehog 3 already breaking records and receiving critical acclaim, it looks set to be one of the biggest hits of the holiday season.
