Rockstar Games, the developer behind GTA 6, is reportedly planning a next-gen release of Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR 2) for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, according to trusted insider and YouTuber Nate the Hate.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Could Arrive on Switch 2 Before GTA 6
In a YouTube episode posted on June 5, 2025, Nate claimed that:
“Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting a next-gen update, and the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.”
This potential release is expected to precede the launch of GTA 6, marking a strategic move by Rockstar to push its flagship open-world western to more platforms.
RDR 2 Launch Likely in Late Summer or Early Fall
The insider further added that the port could launch just a few months after the Switch 2’s release:
“I’m thinking maybe that late summer, early fall window.”
Additionally, he claimed the next-gen patch for RDR 2 will also roll out on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, likely boosting graphics and frame rates.
What This Means for GTA 6 on Switch 2
While Rockstar has not confirmed any plans for GTA 6 on Switch 2, the rumored RDR 2 port shows that the developer is actively exploring the console’s capabilities.
If Red Dead Redemption 2 can run on it, there’s growing hope that GTA 6 could eventually arrive, though likely not before 2027 or 2028.
Rockstar has already brought major titles like GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition and Red Dead Redemption (2023 port) to Nintendo platforms, so a Switch 2 version of RDR 2 would follow that trend.
