At CES 2025, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) announced a significant step forward for Qi2 wireless charging, confirming its adoption in Samsung Galaxy devices this year and ongoing development by Google for faster charging speeds.

Samsung Galaxy Embraces Qi2

Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy devices will support Qi2 in 2025, with rumors suggesting the Galaxy S25 series will debut the feature.

While specifics remain unclear, the technology could be integrated directly into devices or enabled through accessories like cases.

Google Leads the Charge

Google is taking an active role in the development of the Qi 2.2 standard, contributing its high-power wireless charging technology.

This advancement could extend the faster charging speeds currently exclusive to Pixel phones using the Pixel Stand to more devices and chargers.

Although Google hasn’t explicitly confirmed Qi2 support for future Pixel phones, its involvement in Qi2 development strongly suggests adoption is on the horizon.

Qi2 Ecosystem Growth

The WPC also announced plans to expand Qi2 into automotive applications with moving coils in the Qi 2.1 standard.

Additionally, the introduction of “Qi2 Ready” devices and accessories—including cases—will make it easier for users to enjoy the benefits of Qi2 when paired with compatible products.

Samsung Galaxy S25 and Beyond

The Galaxy S25 series, launching later this month, is expected to be the first major release showcasing Qi2 technology.

This marks a pivotal moment for the Qi2 ecosystem, as more Android manufacturers are set to join the movement in 2025.
