Sony fans have already begun speculating about the PlayStation 6, despite the PlayStation 5 Pro being released just over a month ago.
However, recent comments from Sony’s Platform Business Group CEO, Hideaki Nishino, suggest that the PS5 will remain a key player in the gaming world for the foreseeable future.
PS5 and PS5 Pro to Have Longer Life Cycle
In an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, Nishino emphasized that home gaming consoles, including the PS5, will continue to be central to Sony’s business despite the rise of cloud gaming.
He noted that the number of PS5 games is rapidly increasing, and it is unlikely that this trend will change anytime soon.
Nishino also confirmed that both the PS5 and PS5 Pro will have a longer life cycle than previous consoles, meaning gamers can expect them to remain relevant for years to come.
PlayStation 6 Still in Development
Despite the long life cycle of the PS5, Nishino assured fans that the PlayStation 6 is still in development and will be released when the technology is ready.
He explained that the launch of new hardware is driven by technological advancements, not the lifespan of existing consoles.
In other words, while the PS5 will continue to be a staple for some time, the PlayStation 6 is on the horizon, ready to incorporate new technologies and expand the gaming experience.
