Panasonic Resurrects Founder as AI to Share His Management Wisdom

In an unexpected move, Panasonic has created an AI version of its founder, Kōnosuke Matsushita, to pass on his legendary management insights.

Matsushita, who passed away in 1989, is regarded as one of Japan’s most respected business leaders, earning the nickname “God of management.”

The AI, developed in collaboration with the University of Tokyo-affiliated Matsuo Institute, has been trained on Matsushita’s writings, speeches, and over 3,000 voice recordings, allowing it to replicate his thought process, speech, and decision-making style.

This AI clone aims to help current employees understand Matsushita’s management philosophy, which forms the foundation of Panasonic’s current policies. The company also envisions expanding the AI’s capabilities to assist with management decisions, offering guidance based on what Matsushita would have done.

While the project showcases the potential of generative AI in preserving leadership wisdom, it raises questions about the future of business leadership, particularly whether AI-driven decision-making by long-dead CEOs could become a norm.

Panasonic hopes the development will help further research and inspire innovative approaches to traditional business challenges.
