A viral social media story from Panama has taken a new twist after the creator claimed he released a mysterious “alien” object into local waters, sparking fresh fears despite scientific debunking.
TikTok user Kin Panama first gained attention on August 29, 2025, when he said he found a meteorite in his backyard. He posted videos showing the rock allegedly growing a black, tentacle-like substance that pulsed, hid from light, and moved like a living organism. Fans nicknamed it “Venom,” after the Marvel character.
On September 22, Kin told followers he released part of the object into nearby water, sharing footage of it “swimming” and changing shape. He said he feared for his safety and claimed authorities were interested in the object, adding that he might kill the remaining piece if it weakens.
Experts, however, have dismissed the claims. Scientists say the “meteorite” is most likely a painted potato or rock, and the moving substance is a mixture of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), a silicone polymer, and hexane solvent. The chemical can swell and snap, creating lifelike movement.
Meteor-tracking services reported no meteor activity in Panama on the date of Kin’s discovery, and no samples have been independently tested.
Despite the debunking, the videos have gone viral, earning Kin over 231,000 followers on TikTok and fueling both excitement and concern on social media. Some users on X worried the object could harm local vegetation, while others called for quarantine measures.
Panamanian authorities have not confirmed any details about the story. The incident highlights how quickly viral content can blur the line between fact and fiction, even after scientific explanations emerge.
