The announcement of the 2025 Academy Award nominations has been delayed to January 23, 2025, as a result of the ongoing wildfires devastating Los Angeles.
Initially scheduled for January 17, the nominations will now be revealed virtually at 5:30 a.m. PT, with no in-person media attendance due to safety concerns.
The wildfires have significantly affected the entertainment industry, prompting the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to extend the voting period for nominations until January 17.
In a statement, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang expressed their condolences to those impacted by the fires and reaffirmed the Academy’s role in supporting the film community during this crisis.
Alongside the nomination announcement delay, the annual nominees’ luncheon scheduled for February 10 has been canceled, and the Technical Awards set for February 18 have been postponed.
These changes reflect the widespread disruption caused by the wildfires, which have resulted in at least 24 fatalities and displaced approximately 92,000 residents.
As Los Angeles continues to grapple with the devastation caused by the fires, the Oscars ceremony remains scheduled for March 3, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre. The Academy is hopeful that the situation will stabilize by then, allowing for the event to proceed as planned.
This delay underscores the broader impact of the wildfires on Hollywood, with many industry events being postponed or canceled in response to the ongoing crisis.
