Nothing Phone 3 Designed to Help Users Spend Less Time on Their Phones

The new Nothing Phone 3, launched recently in London, focuses on helping users regain control over their smartphone use and encourages a healthier relationship with technology.

Sélim Benayat, Nothing’s AI chief, explained that the Phone 3 is designed around the company’s values of clarity and calmness, aiming to create a more “human” experience.

One standout feature is the Glyph Matrix, a small dot-matrix display on the back of the phone. This display encourages users to place the phone face down on a table, reducing the urge to constantly check notifications and helping people stay present in the moment.

The phone also introduces software tools like Essential Search and Essential Space. Essential Search helps users find important information quickly and with intention, while Essential Space supports users in remembering what matters most, allowing them to focus better on conversations and daily tasks.

Benayat acknowledged the growing concern about unhealthy phone habits. He said the company’s goal is to reimagine the smartphone interface so it inspires creativity and helps people feel more like themselves. “If you create an experience where people feel more themselves, it’s actually healthy, and people like it,” he said.

The Nothing Phone 3 features a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, a triple-lens 50MP camera, and a 5,150mAh battery. It is priced at $799 / £799 / AU$1,509. Pre-orders are open now, with sales starting worldwide on July 15.

This wellbeing-focused approach marks a shift as smartphone makers recognize the importance of balancing technology use with mental health.
