No Steam Deck 2 Yet, Valve Says After AMD’s Z2 Announcement

Valve has shut down rumors of a new Steam Deck 2 after AMD unveiled its Ryzen Z2 processor series.

AMD’s announcement initially led to speculation that the Z2 would power the next version of the Steam Deck, alongside other gaming handhelds like the Lenovo Legion Go and Asus Rog Ally.

However, Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais quickly clarified on Bluesky, stating, “There is and will be no Z2 Steam Deck.” He explained that the Z2 processor is intended for other products in the gaming handheld market, not an updated Steam Deck.

Despite this, AMD’s comments to The Verge created some confusion, as they suggested that the Z2 would indeed be used in the next generation of gaming handhelds.

The processor is expected to bring performance improvements, but it remains unclear whether these will represent a significant leap for handheld gaming.

Valve has hinted at a Steam Deck 2, but it will likely require a major power upgrade before that becomes a reality.

For now, it seems fans will have to wait for further developments before a new version of the Steam Deck arrives.
