After months of speculation, Nintendo has officially confirmed the existence of the Nintendo Switch 2.
While the company hasn’t revealed the final specs or price, it has given some hints about how much it could cost and how it plans to handle the expected massive demand.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed investors, stating that the company is already ramping up production ahead of the April 2 Nintendo Direct, where more details about the console will be revealed.
“As of now, we are taking the risk and proceeding with production to meet as large a demand as possible,” Furukawa said.
He also acknowledged that rapidly increasing production will be difficult but assured investors that Nintendo is preparing to respond as quickly as possible.
One of the biggest issues with new consoles is scalpers grabbing stock and reselling it at high prices.
Furukawa stated that Nintendo will try to combat this by ensuring retailers get enough units to meet demand.
However, history shows that meeting demand for a highly anticipated console is never easy.
While Furukawa didn’t confirm an exact price, he said Nintendo would consider consumer expectations and acknowledged that exchange rates and inflation have changed significantly since the original $299 Nintendo Switch launched in 2017.
With just weeks to go before the Nintendo Direct on April 2, we won’t have to wait long to see if these predictions hold up.
Will the Switch 2 truly be affordable? And will Nintendo be able to keep up with demand? Stay tuned.
