New leaks surrounding the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series have surfaced, shedding light on scrapped content, features that were ahead of their time, and new insights into Rockstar Games’ development process.
Here are the five major revelations from the December 25, 2024, leaks:
New Girlfriends in San Andreas
The leaks revealed that GTA: San Andreas was originally planned to feature six additional girlfriends for CJ. These included:
Gang Territory System in GTA 3 Online
Initially planned for GTA 3 Online, a gang territory system was leaked, including factions like the Police, Mob, Mafia, Yakuza, Dogheart Massive, and Bikers.
The game would have featured faction-specific meeting spots and a reputation system, but these features were never implemented.
Plans for Online Communication
The leaks disclosed that voice and text chat were planned for GTA 3’s multiplayer version, long before their official introduction in GTA Online.
These features were ahead of their time but were scrapped due to technical limitations.
Player Skill System
GTA 3 Online was set to include a player skill system, featuring attributes like hacking, chemistry, charisma, intelligence, and strength.
While later GTA titles included skills related to strength, weapons, and vehicles, the broader skill system never made it into the game.
Bully’s Inception
The leaks also provided insight into the creation of Bully. Initially, Rockstar Vancouver was tasked with developing GTA 3 Online but was later redirected to work on Bully after the multiplayer project was scrapped.
These leaks offer a fascinating look at the ambitious plans that Rockstar Games had for the GTA series and its early online features, which were ultimately hindered by technical constraints.
