New Dual-Screen E Ink Concept Could Change How You Read and Work

A new concept for an E Ink device imagines a dual-screen phone-sized design that could change the way we read and work.

The inkReader duo, designed by Mechanical Pixel, offers a unique approach by combining a dual-screen experience with the portability of an E Ink device.

This concept takes inspiration from LG’s earlier designs, like the LG G8X ThinQ, which used a folio case to add an external screen.

Similarly, the inkReader duo features two screens connected by a 360-degree hinge, allowing users to detach the right screen and use it separately. However, the second screen is mainly for displaying static content, such as a photo or note, powered by the main device.

The technology behind this design already exists, though syncing two screens could be challenging, especially with an OS not designed for dual displays.

However, a custom OS could make it work, especially given the low expectations typically associated with E Ink readers.

Potential Uses:

  • Reading e-books with a two-page layout.
  • Taking notes on one screen while reading on the other.
  • Compact and portable design, easily fitting into your pocket.

While the concept is still in the early stages, it presents an interesting way to merge productivity with the simplicity of E Ink technology.
