Netflix Prepares Monster Season 4 on 1892 Lizzie Borden Case

Netflix is reportedly preparing the fourth season of its popular true crime anthology series Monster to focus on the infamous Lizzie Borden case. Production is expected to begin later this year, even though the third season, about serial killer Ed Gein, has not yet premiered.

The Lizzie Borden case dates back to August 4, 1892, when Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally murdered with a hatchet in their home in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Lizzie Borden, Andrew’s 32-year-old daughter, discovered her father’s body and was charged with both murders. Despite strong public suspicion and evidence, she was acquitted in 1893 after a widely publicized trial.

Monster, created by Ryan Murphy, has been a major success for Netflix since its first season in 2022, which focused on Jeffrey Dahmer and attracted over 1 billion viewing hours in 60 days.

The second season covered the Menendez brothers, and the upcoming third season will portray Ed Gein’s life and crimes. The series has drawn both critical praise and controversy for its realistic depictions of true crime stories.

Murphy’s storytelling often delves into the cultural and psychological aspects of crime. The Lizzie Borden case remains unsolved and continues to attract public interest. Season 4 is expected to explore questions about Lizzie’s guilt and shed light on the social and gender issues of the late 19th century.

Netflix has not yet announced an official release date for the new season.
