Microsoft has started testing a new feature in its Phone Link app that simplifies file sharing between iPhones and Windows PCs.
Windows Insiders can now try out the update, which allows users to transfer files seamlessly using the app. This improvement brings the app closer to the functionality it already offers Android users.
With the updated Phone Link app, version 1.24112.89.0 or later, iPhone users can share files via the iOS share sheet. By selecting the “Link to Windows” app, they can send files directly to a linked Windows PC.
Similarly, Windows users can share files from their PC to an iPhone by right-clicking on a file, selecting “share,” and choosing “my phone.”
While Microsoft has been enhancing Phone Link for iOS, Apple’s restrictions on its operating system still limit its capabilities.
Last year, Microsoft introduced iMessage support, enabling iPhone users to send and receive messages through the app.
However, this integration only works for individual contacts and requires the app to remain open, as it uses Bluetooth and system notifications.
The new file-sharing feature is currently available to Windows Insiders and will roll out to all Phone Link users in the coming months.
This update highlights Microsoft’s efforts to improve the integration of iPhones with Windows PCs, although challenges remain compared to Android compatibility.
