J. Cole has shared his first offering of 2025 with a new track titled Clouds, released on February 21 via his Inevitable blog. The dreamy track, produced by DZL and Omen, comes with a controversial reference to an assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

In the second verse of the song, Cole raps: “I’m that bass in your trunk, the bullet that missed Trump/ The gun that jammed ‘cause it seemed God had other plans.” This line alludes to the June 2020 assassination attempt on Trump during a rally in Philadelphia. The powerful lyrics have already sparked conversation online.

Cole explained the creation of the track in a blog post, revealing that he made the song a few days ago. After adding a second verse, he decided to release it, even without a title.

The song was quickly named “Clouds”, which now holds a special place on his blog. He also hinted at more music coming soon, stating that he is determined to stay consistent this year and keep fans engaged.

Cole previously shared his intent to be more active in updating fans and promised to involve others from his Dreamville squad to contribute to his blog. He expressed excitement for the year ahead, balancing his music career with family life, and opening the door for other voices in his circle to share content.

With “Clouds” marking his first release in 2025, fans can look forward to more from J. Cole as he continues to surprise and inspire with his music.
