Apple is set to unveil the iPhone SE 4 on February 19, as CEO Tim Cook hinted at introducing “the newest member of the family” on that day.
The new budget-friendly iPhone is expected to bring major upgrades, but some popular features will be left behind.
Goodbye to Home Button and Touch ID
The iPhone SE 4 will likely say goodbye to the Home button and Touch ID, which have been a part of the SE lineup for years.
Instead, Apple is expected to introduce Face ID, making the phone look similar to the iPhone 14. The top display notch will house the Face ID sensors and front camera.
Some users may miss Touch ID, as it allows unlocking without looking at the screen. While Apple has included side-button Touch ID on some iPads, it seems unlikely for the iPhone SE 4.
Bigger Display, No More Small Screen
Apple is also moving away from small-screen phones. The iPhone SE 4 is rumored to have a 6.1-inch OLED display, much larger than the 4.7-inch screen on the iPhone SE (2022).
While larger screens offer better visuals, fans of compact phones may not be happy with this change.
Switching to USB-C Charging
Apple is expected to replace the Lightning port with USB-C on the iPhone SE 4. This change, pushed by EU regulations, will make charging more convenient and improve durability.
Many users have faced issues with worn-out Lightning cables, so USB-C is a welcome upgrade.
Other Key Upgrades
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to feature:
- A18 chip, the same processor as the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup, ensuring fast performance.
- 48MP main camera, a big jump from the 12MP sensor in the iPhone SE (2022), promising sharper photos and better zoom.
- Apple’s first in-house 5G modem, which could improve battery life and efficiency.
Will the iPhone SE 4 Be More Expensive?
Apple is expected to increase the price of the iPhone SE 4. The previous model started at $429, but reports suggest the new version could cost $499.
While the upgrades justify the price, some users may be disappointed by the loss of classic features.
The iPhone SE 4 will be a big shift for Apple’s budget lineup. Whether users will embrace the changes or miss the old design remains to be seen.
