Meta is bringing AI-powered video editing to Instagram next year, allowing users to transform their videos using simple text prompts.

The new tool, showcased by Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, will enable users to make significant changes to their videos, such as altering their clothing, backgrounds, and even adding animated characters.

What to Expect from the AI Video Editing Tool

Earlier this year, Meta previewed an AI video creation tool called Movie Gen, which demonstrated AI-generated videos based on text input. Initially presented as a research project, it seemed far from being a consumer-ready feature.

However, Mosseri’s recent demo revealed that Instagram is set to launch a practical version of this technology in 2025.

The demo showed how users could change aspects of their video, such as Mosseri switching from a cardigan to a leather jacket, adding a gold chain, and changing the background to locations like the Eiffel Tower or New York’s Times Square.

More fun features included a 3D cartoon cow and Mosseri transforming into an Animoji-style character.

Availability and Future Plans

While the specific release date is yet to be confirmed, Instagram aims to roll out this feature sometime in 2025.

Meta is also exploring other AI features, including 2024 Collage and year-in-review tools, to further enhance the user experience.
