Valeria Marquez, a 23-year-old Mexican influencer and business owner, was shot and killed while livestreaming on TikTok from her beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Marquez was sitting at a table holding a pink stuffed pig, chatting with viewers during the stream. A man entered the salon and asked if she was Valeria. After she confirmed, he shot her twice—once in the head and once in the chest. She died instantly.
The man’s face was not shown on camera. After the shooting, the stream ended abruptly when someone picked up the phone, briefly showing their face. The attacker fled the scene on a motorcycle. No arrests have been made.
Authorities are investigating the case as a femicide, which is the gender-based killing of a woman. This reflects a serious issue in Mexico, where around 10 women are killed every day due to gender violence.
Valeria Marquez had over 113,000 TikTok followers and about 70,000 on Instagram. She shared content about beauty, lifestyle, and her journey as an entrepreneur. She opened her salon, Blossom The Beauty Lounge, in 2024 and was crowned Miss Rostro in 2021.
Her murder has shocked the online community and renewed calls for action against violence targeting women in Mexico.
