IKEA Brings Back Iconic Niels Gammelgaard Shelving Unit for 2025

IKEA Niels Gammelgaard Shelving Unit

IKEA is set to relaunch the much-loved Niels Gammelgaard shelving unit, a cult classic that has become a sought-after item on Facebook Marketplace and vintage reselling sites.

Originally released in the 1980s, the shelving unit will be part of IKEA’s Nytillverkad collection, which revives iconic designs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

Gammelgaard, known for his industrial yet minimalist designs, spoke to Hypebeast about the significance of this reissue, stating, “If the next generation and their children after them find the design fantastic, then you have succeeded as a designer.”

The shelving unit, along with other pieces from the collection, has been updated with vibrant colors, including bold oranges, reds, blues, and greens.

Collection Highlights

BYAKORRE (previously GUIDE): The shelving unit that has garnered the most attention, now features multicolored edging on one side and white on the other. Gammelgaard notes the versatility of the design, allowing customers to customize the shelf to match their mood.

MOFALLA (previously COX): A foldable living room chair designed by Gammelgaard, made with durable canvas fabric over metal legs.
