As excitement builds for Sony’s latest State of Play, fans are looking forward to over 40 minutes of PS5 game reveals. But while many are focused on what’s next, others are still poking fun at a game that never actually came.
Yes, we’re talking about Rockstar’s long-forgotten title, Agent.
Announced way back in 2009, Agent was meant to be a stealth-action game set during the 1970s Cold War. It promised a story filled with espionage, counter-intelligence, and political assassinations, designed exclusively for PlayStation 3.
Despite years of rumors and anticipation, the game was never officially released — and barely even shown. In fact, the trademark for Agent was abandoned in 2018, confirming what many already suspected: the game was cancelled behind the scenes.
Rumors suggest that development on Agent was quietly dropped as Rockstar shifted resources to GTA V, which ended up becoming one of the best-selling games of all time.
Now, GTA 6 fans are roasting the ghost of Agent with sarcasm and memes:
“It was never officially cancelled, it’s still coming guys,” joked SoundwaveXP.
“Wonder when it’s coming out,” added a sarcastic JDCruz1025.
“They’ll finally unveil it at Summer Game Fest,” quipped Literalthrowaw5.
The industry has moved away from announcing games too early, especially when there’s no guarantee they’ll actually come out — and Agent remains a prime example of why.
While some fans still joke about its return, it’s clear that Agent is a punchline now, not a promise.
