Google TV is finally getting a sleep timer, one of the most requested features by users. According to findings in the latest Google TV Home app update, the sleep timer is on its way—though not yet live.
The update reveals that users will soon be able to set, pause, or cancel a timer, and see how much time remains before their Google TV powers down. There’s also a message in place if the timer fails to shut off the device, along with possible notifications to keep users informed of the timer’s status.
Though some TV manufacturers have added their own versions, Google TV has never supported an official sleep timer, making this addition a long overdue improvement.
Also in development is a Material 3 Expressive design update for the Google TV app on Android. The changes appear small for now—just new button accents and more color—but they suggest a bigger redesign may be coming later.
While neither feature is active yet, both updates hint at Google TV’s ongoing push for a more modern and user-friendly experience.
