The Google Pixel 6, a game-changing phone that introduced Google’s Tensor chip and a fresh hardware design, has officially reached the end of its promised Android version updates.

With the recent rollout of Android 15, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro have fulfilled their three-year update commitment, marking the conclusion of major OS upgrades for these devices.

While newer models like the Pixel 8 now enjoy seven years of Android updates, the Pixel 6 still holds its ground. Even though Android 16 likely won’t be coming to these phones, users can expect ongoing security updates through October 2026. This ensures the devices remain protected against vulnerabilities for years to come.

Despite the end of Android version updates, the Pixel 6 isn’t being abandoned. Many new features will still arrive through app updates and Google’s Pixel Feature Drops.

For instance, AI advancements like Google Photos’ enhanced tools and Google Lens’s multimodal capabilities don’t rely on system updates, meaning the Pixel 6 will continue to support innovative features.

If you’re happy with your Pixel 6, there’s no rush to upgrade. The phone remains functional and secure for now. However, when security updates cease in 2026, it’s wise to consider replacing your device.

If you’re eager for an upgrade, newer phones like the Pixel 9 or Galaxy S24 offer significant improvements in build quality, battery life, and performance.
