Google Maps App Introduces Teal Accent Color on Android

Google Maps - Teal Color

Google Maps is rolling out a new teal accent color for its Android app. The update replaces the blue accent color with a more muted teal for buttons and other UI elements.

The change, which began to appear on December 10, 2024, removes the blue from the Floating Action Button (FAB) and alters the accent color for the selected tab. The text label has also switched from blue to black.

The update also affects carousels in Directions, where a darker shade of teal is used. For other areas, a lighter teal shade is applied. Additionally, blue icons have been updated throughout the app.

This update is part of a larger effort to refresh Google Maps’ design. Last year, the map layer received a color palette update, and now the app is following suit with the teal accent.

It’s unclear why Google chose this color, as it doesn’t align with the company’s usual blue, red, yellow, and green palette.

While the update is rolling out, it’s not yet widely available on Android or iOS. The teal accent can be seen in the bottom bar and in buttons like Directions and Start on listings.
