    Don’t Buy Gaming Laptops ― Here’s Why

Gaming laptops may seem like a convenient solution for mobile gaming, but 2025 might not be the best year to invest in one. Here are three key reasons why:

    1. Throttling and Overheating Issues Persist

Gaming laptops are notorious for underperforming compared to their desktop counterparts. Laptop GPUs are often 40-50% slower than desktop versions, and the compact design leads to overheating and throttling.

As next-gen GPUs arrive with higher power demands, these issues are expected to worsen, making gaming laptops a poor investment for serious gamers.

    2. New Tariffs Could Drive Prices Higher

The Trump administration is considering a 10% tariff increase on Chinese goods, which would affect laptops and smartphones.

If implemented, this could raise gaming laptop prices by up to 45%. While the tariffs may not be finalized, it’s a risk that could make gaming laptops even more expensive for consumers.

    3. Next-Gen GPUs Will Make Laptops Even Less Appealing

With Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5000 series GPUs, expect a significant price hike. The RTX 5090 could cost upwards of $2,000, and even mid-range models are expected to be pricey.

Gaming laptops already offer worse value compared to desktops with similar specs, and this price increase will make them even less attractive.

If gaming is your priority, a desktop PC offers better value, performance, and upgradeability without the overheating and throttling problems.
