Chinese AI startup DeepSeek is preparing to launch its next-generation AI model, R2, ahead of its original schedule.

The model is expected to release before May 2025, according to insider sources. This move follows the success of DeepSeek’s R1 model, which outperformed many Western AI models at a lower cost.

DeepSeek has gained attention for creating powerful AI models using less expensive Nvidia chips, making AI technology more accessible.

The new R2 model promises better coding capabilities and improved reasoning in multiple languages beyond English.

DeepSeek operates differently from traditional Chinese tech companies, with a flat management structure and shorter working hours. The company was founded by Liang Wenfeng, a former hedge fund manager known for his low-profile approach and focus on AI research.

Despite initial regulatory concerns, the Chinese government now supports DeepSeek’s efforts. However, authorities have instructed the company to maintain a low profile amid rising global concerns about its privacy practices.

With DeepSeek’s rapid rise, experts believe its innovations could challenge the dominance of major AI companies like OpenAI and Google. The launch of R2 is expected to intensify competition in the AI industry worldwide.
