Caturday Proves the Internet’s Love for Cats Is Still Strong

The internet once again slowed down on Saturday to celebrate Caturday, a long-running online tradition dedicated to cats. Nearly 20 years after it began, the weekly event continues to unite users around cute and simple feline moments.

This week, several viral cats stood out across social media. One popular image showed a tabby sitting under bright LED lights, making the cat look as if it was glowing or being “charged” like a device.

Another favorite was a small gray kitten that refuses to let go of its owner. The kitten clings tightly to an arm while being carried, earning it the nickname “the koala kitten.”

A third viral clip featured a cat peeking over a wooden fence and loudly meowing at a neighbor. The cat only calmed down after receiving a head scratch, turning the moment into a shared joke online.

Caturday began around 2005 or 2006 on early internet forums. Users agreed to post cat photos every Saturday as a break from regular content.

The tradition went mainstream a year later with the rise of LOLcats and popular meme websites. Since then, Caturday has become a fixed part of internet culture.

Experts say Caturday works because it offers a mental break. Simple and cute content helps people relax after a long week without needing much attention or effort.

In 2026, with social feeds full of AI content and fast-moving news, Caturday still stands out. A calm cat photo or short video remains a rare moment of shared joy online.

As one popular comment summed it up, the internet can be noisy, but a happy cat always feels just right.
