Capcom has announced a brand-new mobile spin-off for the Resident Evil franchise titled Resident Evil: Survival Unit. The strategy game is currently in development for iOS and Android, with more details set to be revealed during a showcase on July 10 at 6 PM ET.
Unlike previous action- or horror-focused Resident Evil titles, Survival Unit will take a different approach by introducing real-time strategy gameplay. It’s being co-developed by Aniplex Inc. and Korean developer Joycity, known for other mobile strategy games like Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War and the upcoming Disney Realm Breakers.
While plot details remain unclear, the developers have promised that Survival Unit will “expand the global fanbase” and offer “a new approach that is different from the existing series,” according to an official press release. The game is being developed closely with Capcom to maintain the authenticity of the Resident Evil universe.
This announcement follows Capcom’s recent reveal of Resident Evil: Requiem—the upcoming mainline entry (also known as Resident Evil 9)—which introduced a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, and will feature both first-person and third-person gameplay perspectives.
More information about Resident Evil: Survival Unit, including gameplay and story details, is expected at the upcoming showcase.
