Gearbox Software’s upcoming game Borderlands 4 will launch on September 12, 2025, offering players a fresh adventure on the new planet Kairos. Following the events of Borderlands 3, four new Vault Hunters arrive on Kairos, where Vault Hunting is outlawed and survival is tough.

Players can choose from four distinct Vault Hunters, each with unique abilities and play styles:

Amon (Forgeknight): A towering brute who excels in melee combat and elemental attacks. Amon can throw fiery axes, deliver powerful punches, and summon protective fire walls.

Harlowe (Gravitar): A crowd-control expert using “Entanglement” to link enemies so damage spreads among them. She can lift foes, slam them into others, and deploy explosive energy traps.

Rafa (Exo-Soldier): A versatile run-and-gun fighter with robotic weaponry, including turrets, arm cannons, and melee blades. Rafa’s skills mix long-range firepower with close combat.

Vex (Dark Siren): A summoner who calls elemental minions to battle. Vex’s powers adapt to her equipped weapon’s element, allowing flexible attack styles.

The developers emphasize that each Vault Hunter offers a unique fantasy and play experience. Creative director Graeme Timmins said the goal is to give players classic archetypes with fresh twists.

Senior producer Anthony Nicholson explained that the game features deeper skill trees allowing players to customize characters heavily.

Players are likely to try all four Vault Hunters before choosing a main, as each offers something exciting and different. Borderlands 4 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC at launch, with a Switch 2 version coming later.
