The highly anticipated third film in the Avatar franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is set to release on December 19, 2025, nearly three years after Avatar: The Way of Water.

Director James Cameron is returning, with Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprising their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri. The film introduces a new Na’vi clan, the Ash Clan, led by Varang (Oona Chaplin), who are presented as antagonists. Cameron has said the movie explores darker aspects of the Na’vi and makes “brave choices” to differentiate it from the first two films.

Other returning cast members include Sigourney Weaver (Kiri), Joel David Moore (Norm Spellman), Jack Champion (Javier “Spider” Socorro), Stephen Lang (Colonel Miles Quaritch), and Britain Dalton (Lo’ak). The trailer also showcased the Wind Traders, a peaceful Na’vi tribe traveling in ships with jellyfish-like sails.

The story continues the conflict with humans threatening Pandora. At the end of the second film, Colonel Quaritch’s memories were implanted in a new avatar, setting up continued danger for Jake’s family.

Avatar: Fire and Ash was filmed in New Zealand, a production that has supported thousands of local jobs. The fourth and fifth films are scheduled for December 21, 2029, and December 19, 2031.
