Apple has introduced its newest and most affordable iPhone, the iPhone 16E. This device replaces the iPhone SE in Apple’s lineup, but it comes with a higher price tag and a modern design.

At $600, it is the cheapest iPhone currently available, but it costs significantly more than previous SE models.

The iPhone 16E is essentially a stripped-down version of the iPhone 16. It features a 6.1-inch XDR OLED display, a 48-megapixel main camera, and the latest A18 chip.

Unlike the SE models, it removes the old home button design and adopts a modern look. It also includes Apple Intelligence, Apple’s new AI-powered features, making it the most affordable way to access them.

Who Is the iPhone 16E For?

The iPhone 16E is not a true budget phone like the SE series. Instead, it sits between Apple’s premium models and the outdated SE. It may appeal to:

    • Users who wanted a budget iPhone but didn’t like the SE’s old design
    • People who want a cheaper iPhone with Apple Intelligence
    • Former iPhone users who left due to high prices but still want a modern Apple phone
    • Shoppers looking for an alternative to Android’s budget premium models like the Galaxy S24 FE and Pixel 8A

However, the iPhone 16E lacks some premium features found in the iPhone 16, such as a secondary ultrawide camera, MagSafe charging, and faster wireless charging. It also does not support mmWave 5G, Wi-Fi 7, or Ultra Wideband connectivity.

What Happened to the iPhone SE?

Apple quietly removed the iPhone SE (2022) from its online store, meaning new SE models are only available through third-party sellers or as refurbished devices. This leaves the iPhone 16E as the only lower-cost iPhone option in Apple’s official lineup.

    The Bottom Line

The iPhone 16E modernizes Apple’s budget lineup, but it comes at a cost. While it offers a better screen, camera, and Apple Intelligence, it loses the affordability that made the iPhone SE popular.

This shift suggests Apple is moving away from true budget phones and focusing on offering a more affordable premium experience instead.
