Apple’s highly anticipated AR smart glasses are reportedly still years away, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Despite ongoing development, Apple is said to be 3–5 years from “getting the approach right,” making a near-term release unlikely.
Why the Delay?
To deliver AR glasses that are:
- Lightweight and fashionable
- Equipped with miniaturized components
- Capable of long battery life
- Featuring high-resolution displays
Apple faces significant technical challenges to create a consumer-friendly product without compromising the user experience or driving costs too high.
The Current Landscape
While companies like Meta and Snapchat have showcased AR glasses, these remain:
- Prototypes or developer-only products
- Lacking in affordability and mainstream appeal
Apple Vision Pro, Apple’s current AR/VR headset, shares some similarities but is much bulkier compared to the vision for lightweight AR glasses.
What to Expect
For now, Apple fans will need to wait. While impressive AR technology exists, Apple appears committed to perfecting the experience before bringing AR smart glasses to market.
