Android 16 is introducing Live Updates, a new notification feature designed to keep users informed about ongoing activities like ride-sharing, food deliveries, and navigation.
This feature has been available on iPhones for some time, and Android users have been waiting for their own version.
Thanks to a preview from Android Authority, we now have our first look at how these notifications will function. They allow apps to update notifications in real time, keeping users informed without needing to open the app.
For example, if you order food, your notification will show live progress updates from preparation to delivery, similar to the Domino’s Tracker.
Google is introducing a ProgressStyle notification template, which will first support ride-sharing, food delivery, and navigation apps.
While an official list of supported apps hasn’t been released yet, popular choices like Uber, Lyft, and UberEats are expected to adopt it soon. Fitness tracking apps and other services could also take advantage of this feature in the future.
Live Updates are set to make notifications more useful than ever, allowing users to stay informed without constant app switching.
