    Apple AirTag

Apple’s popular item tracker, the AirTag, is getting a long-awaited upgrade. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the second-generation AirTag is progressing through manufacturing tests and is expected to launch in mid-2025.

Here’s what to expect from AirTag 2 and why it could be a significant improvement over its predecessor.

    Key Upgrades in AirTag 2

Better Range with New Ultrawide Band Chip
The AirTag 2 is rumored to feature a new ultrawide band chip, significantly boosting its tracking range. The next-generation AirTag will reportedly offer precision finding up to 90 meters, compared to the current model’s 10-30 meters. This upgrade will make it much easier to locate items in larger spaces.

    Improved Wireless Technology
A newer wireless chip is expected to enhance location accuracy, particularly in less densely populated areas. This improvement will make AirTags more reliable for outdoor tracking and better suited for diverse environments.

    Enhanced Privacy and Anti-Stalking Features
Apple is also focusing on addressing privacy concerns. The AirTag 2 will include better anti-stalking measures to help targeted individuals locate hidden AirTags. This comes in response to reports of misuse, such as disabling built-in speakers to make AirTags harder to detect.

    Release Date and Pricing

AirTag 2, code-named B589, is expected to launch around mid-2025. For those who can’t wait, the current AirTag is still a great option and is currently on sale. A single AirTag is available for $24, while a 4-pack is priced at $69.99—an excellent deal for those needing multiple trackers.

With better range, improved accuracy, and enhanced privacy features, AirTag 2 is shaping up to be a must-have upgrade for Apple users.

Whether you’re tracking keys, luggage, or other essentials, these improvements will make the AirTag even more reliable and secure.
