Apple has introduced a new feature in iOS 18.2 that makes AirTags even more useful for travelers.

The new “Share Item Location” feature allows users to share the location of their lost AirTag with a trusted third party, such as an airline, to help track down lost luggage.

How to Share AirTag Location with an Airline

To use this feature, travelers can generate a location link for their lost AirTag through the Find My app on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

The link shows the AirTag’s location on an interactive map that updates in real-time. The link also includes a timestamp showing the most recent location update.

Airlines That Support the New AirTag Feature

Several airlines have partnered with Apple to support the Share Item Location feature. These airlines include:

    • United
    • Delta
    • British Airways
    • Lufthansa
    • Air Canada
    • Air New Zealand
    • Turkish Airlines
    • Aer Lingus
    • Austrian Airlines
    • Brussels Airlines
    • Swiss
    • Eurowings
    • Iberia Airlines

This means if you lose your luggage with an AirTag, you can share the location link with the airline.

For example, United Airlines allows travelers to file a delayed baggage report and attach the Find My link to help their customer service team track the luggage faster.

Privacy Features of the New AirTag Location Sharing

Apple has added several privacy protections to ensure the safety of users’ data:

    • Location sharing stops once the bag is found.
    • Users can stop sharing the location at any time.
    • The location link expires after 7 days.
    • The process is end-to-end encrypted and anonymous, meaning no one, including Apple, can access the location data.

This new feature is a great addition for frequent travelers, making it easier to find lost luggage and get it back quickly.
