XChat is finally getting a public release. The new standalone messaging app from X will launch on iPhone and iPad on April 17.
The app has been in testing since last year. Now, it is ready for a wider rollout. An App Store listing confirms the release date and gives a first look at the design, including its icon and interface.
XChat is built as a private messaging space. According to its description, users will be able to chat with anyone on X in a more focused and direct way, separate from the main app.
Privacy is a key feature. XChat will not include ads or tracking. Messages will also be protected with end-to-end encryption, which means only the sender and receiver can read them.
Early previews show several features. Users can send disappearing messages, create group chats, and make video calls. There is also an option to block screenshots, adding another layer of privacy.
The app can already be pre-ordered on the App Store. It will download automatically for users on launch day next week.
XChat marks a major step for X as it continues to expand beyond social media. The company is clearly pushing deeper into private communication, taking on established messaging apps.
