Sophie Turner has been revealed as Lara Croft in the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series for Prime Video. The first official image was released today, giving fans their first look at Turner in the iconic role. Production on the series has recently begun.

The debut photo shows Turner, 29, wearing Lara Croft’s classic 1990s outfit. She appears in a red tank top, khaki shorts, and a backpack, with dual pistols at her hips and sunglasses on her head. The look is inspired by the original Tomb Raider games, including Tomb Raider II.

The image confirms that filming for season one is now underway. The series aims to honor the legacy of the popular video game character while introducing Lara Croft to a new audience. The classic costume choice signals a return to the franchise’s roots.

The show features a strong supporting cast. Sigourney Weaver stars as Evelyn Wallis, a mysterious character who uses Lara’s skills for her own purposes. Jason Isaacs plays Atlas DeMornay, Lara’s uncle.

Other cast members include Martin Bobb-Semple as tech expert Zip and Bill Paterson as Lara’s butler, Winston Smith. Additional roles are played by Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, and Sasha Luss.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge leads the project as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. She is joined by co-showrunner Chad Hodge, with Jonathan van Tulleken directing. The series comes from Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, dj2 Entertainment, and Legendary Television.

The Tomb Raider series is part of a larger plan to expand the franchise across TV, film, and games. Turner has said she is excited to follow in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. A release date and plot details have not yet been announced.
