Amazon is developing a live-action God of War TV series, bringing the popular PlayStation franchise to the small screen. The show is based on the recent Norse-era games, following Kratos and his son on a dangerous journey across Midgard.
Ryan Hurst has been cast as Kratos. Hurst is known for roles in The Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy, and Saving Private Ryan. He also voiced Thor in God of War: Ragnarok. More cast members will be announced as production moves forward.
The series is being led by Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Star Trek. Moore will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Frederick E.O. Toye, an Emmy-winning director, will direct at least the first two episodes.
The story follows Kratos after he leaves his past in Greece behind. When his wife dies, he travels with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak. Along the way, they face gods and monsters, testing their bond and shaping the fate of the world.
Amazon has already committed to at least two seasons, signaling plans for a multi-season story. Showrunner Moore has indicated that work is actively underway in the writers’ room.
The series is still in early development, with no release date yet. Industry watchers expect the show will not premiere before 2027.
Fans of the franchise can expect a faithful adaptation of the Norse-era games, combining epic action with family drama, as Amazon invests heavily in the project.
