Rockstar Deletes GTA Online Missions Recreating Charlie Kirk Assassination

Rockstar Games has removed several user-created missions from GTA Online after players recreated a real-world political killing using the game’s new Mission Creator tool. The developer has also blocked certain names from being used in mission titles and descriptions.

The action follows reports that some players designed missions referencing the September 2025 killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The real incident sparked widespread public outrage and remains the subject of an ongoing criminal case in the United States.

Rockstar introduced the Mission Creator tool in December 2025 as part of the A Safehouse in the Hills update. The feature allows players to design and share custom missions using characters, locations, and objectives.

Within days of its release, some players began sharing missions that closely mirrored the real event. These missions circulated briefly on Rockstar’s Social Club platform before being flagged and removed.

By January 12, 2026, Rockstar had added “Charlie Kirk” to its profanity and restricted-terms filter, preventing the name from appearing in searches, mission titles, or descriptions. Several creators also reported account warnings or bans.

Players have since attempted to bypass the filter using altered spellings or substitute names. Rockstar has continued to remove these missions as they appear, in what users describe as an ongoing moderation effort.

The move has divided the gaming community. Some players say Rockstar acted responsibly by stopping content linked to real-world violence. Others argue that strict moderation clashes with the franchise’s reputation for satire and free expression.

Rockstar has not issued a detailed public statement but has reiterated that content referencing or glorifying real violence violates its community guidelines. The situation highlights the growing challenge of moderating user-generated content in large online games.
