Singer Ray J has filed a countersuit against Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner, claiming they violated a $6 million settlement over his and Kardashian’s sex tape. The countersuit responds to an October defamation lawsuit filed by Kardashian and Jenner.
Ray J alleges the settlement required Kardashian and Jenner to avoid further public mention of the tape. He says statements made on The Kardashians in May 2023 breached the agreement. He is seeking $1 million in damages, plus interest and legal fees.
He denies all defamation claims, calling the lawsuit a “public relations charade” meant for publicity and retaliation. Ray J also claims Kardashian, Jenner, Kendall Jenner, and ex-husband Ye made false accusations on the show, harming his reputation and business prospects.
Kardashian and Jenner previously sued Ray J for defamation after he compared their actions to RICO charges against Sean “Diddy” Combs. Ray J says some remarks were offhand or unknowingly live-streamed, and any breach by him was excused by their prior violations.
A lawyer for Kardashian and Jenner called Ray J’s countersuit “frivolous” and said he will lose the case.
The dispute traces back to a sex tape recorded in 2003 and released in 2007 through Vivid Entertainment.
