Andy Garcia’s ‘Diamond’ Begins Filming After 15 Years in the Making

Oscar-nominated actor Andy Garcia is returning to the director’s chair with Diamond, a contemporary film noir he has been developing for nearly 15 years. Garcia will also star in the movie, which is currently shooting in Los Angeles.

The film follows Joe Diamond, a man haunted by his past with an uncanny ability to solve crimes. Using observation and wit, Diamond uncovers hidden truths in a complex world. Garcia wrote and produced the project, marking his third directorial effort after 1993’s documentary Cachao… Como Su Ritmo No Hay Dos and 2005’s The Lost City.

Diamond features an ensemble cast including Brendan Fraser, Bill Murray, Dustin Hoffman, Vicky Krieps, Demián Bichir, Rosemarie DeWitt, Danny Huston, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Yul Vazquez, Robert Patrick, and Rachel Ticotin. Garcia described assembling the cast as a “dream come true” after years of persistence.

“This story has haunted me for over a decade,” Garcia said. “When the time is right, the movie gods open the window of opportunity. Perhaps we exhaust them with our persistence. So they give up and bless you with this extraordinary cast of actors to tell your story.”

The production is being handled by CineSon Entertainment, with Jai Stefan producing for Shrink Media and Frank Mancuso Jr. also producing. Executive producers include John Ahn, Wendy Lee, Oscura Film, Marco Vicini, and Fernando Tsai. Domestic rights are managed by CAA Media Finance.

Diamond is shaping up as a major comeback for Garcia as a director, blending his experience in front of the camera with a long-gestating vision for a suspenseful, character-driven story.
