Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and Joaquin Phoenix, along with director Jonathan Glazer, have joined as executive producers on The Voice of Hind Rajab, a drama depicting the killing of five-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab in Gaza.

The film is directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania and will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2025, competing for the Golden Lion.

The story recounts events from January 2024, when Hind Rajab died after being caught in crossfire while fleeing Gaza City with her family. Audio recordings of her calls to the Palestine Red Crescent Society form the film’s core, capturing her desperate pleas for over three hours.

Investigations, including by The Washington Post and Forensic Architecture, confirmed that the car she was in sustained 335 bullet holes and that Israeli tanks were present at the scene, despite official denials.

Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, joins Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Alfonso Cuarón, and others as executive producers, lending high-profile support to the project.

Ben Hania, whose previous films Four Daughters and The Man Who Sold His Skin received Oscar nominations, said: “I cannot accept a world where a child calls for help and no one comes. Cinema can preserve a memory.”

The film, shot in Tunisia, stars Saja Kilani and Clara Khoury. It is backed by Film4 and MBC Studio, and will also screen at the Toronto, San Sebastian, and London film festivals following Venice.

The release coincides with heightened attention to the Gaza conflict, including planned pro-Palestinian protests at the festival.
