Daredevil Star Charlie Cox Says It’s “Probably Time” to Buy a Game Console After Starring in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Daredevil: Born Again

Actor Charlie Cox, best known for his role as Daredevil, has admitted he feels like a “total fraud” when fans praise him for his performance in one of this year’s most acclaimed games, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Despite playing party member Gustave in the game, Cox says he still hasn’t played it—and doesn’t even own a console yet.

Speaking during a Q&A at GalaxyCon, Cox shared his experience working on the game. He revealed that his role only required a four-hour recording session, leaving him unaware of the game’s full scope until after its release.

“I remember being in the studio and thinking, ‘This is beautiful, the visuals are extraordinary.’ They’ve come a long way since Mario 64, which is probably the last computer game I played,” Cox said.

The star-studded voice cast of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also includes Jennifer English as Maelle, Ben Starr as Verso, and Andy Serkis as Renoir. The game, developed by French studio Sandfall Interactive, has earned widespread praise for its storytelling, visual style, and fresh take on the RPG genre.

IGN awarded the game a 9/10, calling it a “modern RPG classic” and noting that Sandfall “truly understood why classic and contemporary RPGs are special and made the pieces it borrowed its own.”

Cox says he’s now eager to play the game himself. “I wanna play the game. I need to play the game. I need to get a console first,” he admitted. “I feel like a fraud because I just did the voice. But it’s so cool, I’m so happy for these guys.”

Cox also praised the development team for their success despite not being a major studio. The game has even caught the attention of French President Emmanuel Macron, who personally congratulated the team for their achievement.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was released on April 24, 2025, and is already considered a frontrunner for Game of the Year. Fans interested in trying the game can find IGN’s detailed guides and walkthroughs to help them get started.
