Amazon Web Services (AWS) is set to launch a new AI agent marketplace on July 15, 2025, during its AWS Summit in New York City, according to exclusive reporting by TechCrunch. The marketplace will allow developers and businesses to buy, sell, and install AI agents—software tools powered by artificial intelligence that can perform tasks independently.
One of the major partners in this launch is Anthropic, a leading AI company backed by Amazon. The company is expected to play a central role in the new marketplace by offering its own AI agents and enabling developers to create and sell agents using its API.
A Growing Focus on AI Agents
AI agents have gained significant attention across the tech industry, with major companies and investors seeing them as the next big leap in AI. These tools are designed to make decisions and complete tasks without constant user input, such as automating workflows or interacting with digital systems.
While AI agents are currently available through various platforms, they are often siloed and hard to access across providers. AWS aims to solve this by creating a centralized platform where customers can find and install AI agents suited to their specific needs.
Benefits for Startups and Developers
The new marketplace will provide startups and AI developers with a platform to reach AWS’s large customer base. Developers can charge customers directly for their agents, similar to how software is sold in SaaS (Software as a Service) marketplaces.
Although AWS will take a small share of the revenue, the platform could unlock new income opportunities for developers and help companies like Anthropic reach new users—including those already using rival services like OpenAI.
Anthropic is already seeing strong growth, reportedly reaching $3 billion in annualized revenue by May 2025. Its deep involvement in the AWS marketplace is expected to further boost adoption of its technology and API tools.
Competition from Other Tech Giants
AWS is not the first to create an AI agent marketplace. Google Cloud launched its version in April, followed by Microsoft’s Agent Store for its 365 Copilot suite. Salesforce and ServiceNow have also developed their own agent marketplaces tailored to enterprise needs.
It remains to be seen how well these platforms will perform—particularly for smaller AI startups looking to gain visibility and traction.
