Amazon will officially shut down its Freevee app in August 2025, according to an in-app message to users. The company is moving all Freevee content to Prime Video, where it will continue to be available for free without a subscription.
“Prime Video is the new exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies, and Live TV,” the notice reads.
Freevee, which launched in 2019 as IMDb TV and was rebranded in 2022, offered ad-supported streaming in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Austria. It gained popularity for shows like “Jury Duty,” “Bosch: Legacy,” and “Neighbours.” These series will now live under the “Watch for Free” section on Prime Video.
Amazon previously announced plans to sunset the Freevee brand in November 2024, aiming to simplify its streaming services. Prime members won’t notice any change to their content access, while non-Prime members can still stream select free shows, movies, and FAST (Free Ad-Supported TV) channels.
By merging Freevee with Prime Video, Amazon is streamlining its offerings and focusing on one platform for both free and subscription content. Users are encouraged to download Prime Video and sign in with their Amazon account to keep watching.
